What is Junker Testing?

A Junker test is a mechanical study that evaluates the self-loosening behavior of bolted joints. It is a pivotal testing process as the loosening of bolted joints have been problematic since their first appearance.

This process is achieved by subjecting the joint to dynamic shear loading which is caused by transverse vibration.

The goal of Junker testing is to determine how many cycles at which the joint loses preload. This information allows engineers to specify if the safety and quality of joints will fully meet the application standards.
