I.T.S. is the only independent third party testing facility in the world to be equipped with a JETS burner rig capable of performing standard JETS testing as well as High-'Q' thermal gradient testing (pictured above).
I.T.S.'s thermal shock / thermal gradient test rig can achieve front side temperatures upwards of 3000°F (1650°C) using compressed natural gas/oxygen mix, while maintaining suitable back side temperatures near 1750°F (955°C) with compressed shop air.
The rig is digitally controlled and monitored using custom software written by I.T.S. in LabView that is fully programmable. This two station unit controls the front and back side set points independently with high precision flow meters, while monitoring all faces using Inferred (IR) cameras. The dwell time at temperature can be programmed to suit the in service criteria of the Thermal Barrier Coating (TBC) being tested. All data is collected and stored digitally to an ASCII file for test verification and determination of coating pedigree. Standard test deliverables: Visual observations of the coating interfaces [top to bond, bond to substrate] at 20X magnification & Cycles to Failure or Run-out.
The rig is extremely versatile and can be modified to handle various sample geometries, testing up to eight-(8) specimens at once.
