I.T.S has the capability to perform fretting wear testing utilizing our custom designed test machines.
Fretting describes a type of contact failure in systems that undergo very small vibration amplitudes. This type of failures is often associated with a combination of oxidation corrosion and abrasive wear between two contacting metallic bodies. Engineers perform testing on material couples and coatings to find combination that reduce the wear caused by fretting.
Our custom machines allow accurate measurement and control of normal contact force, tangential contact force, and relative displacement between contacting surfaces. A wide range of contact area and specimen geometry can be tested.
Connected to a fast data acquisition system, materials response can be monitored and recorded for analysis. Our fretting wear machines are designed to accommodate a wide range of frequencies and normal load ranges, as well as elevated temperatures.
